    In the present study, seven hydroxamic acid derivatives of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (ibuprofen, fenoprofen, ketoprofen, indomethacin and diclofenac) were found to possess significant antioxidant, radical scavenging and metal chelating activities. The most active antioxidant and radical scavenger was N-methylhydroxamic acid of diclofenac (ANT = 88.0 % and EC50 = 60.1 microg mL-1). The activity of the standard substance, butylated hydroxyanisole, in the two assays was ANT = 86.9 % and EC50 = 18.8 microg mL-1, respectively. Ibuproxam was the strongest iron chelator among investigated hydroxamic acids (EC50 = 255.6 microg mL-1), yet significantly weaker than the standard substance, EDTA (EC50 = 29.1 microg mL-1). It seems that different mechanism is involved in metal chelating activity than in antioxidant and radical scavenging activity. Antioxidant and radical scavenging activities may be connected with conjugation of the nitrogen lone electron pair with the carbonyl group. On the other hand, more hydrophilic substances tend to be better iron chelators.U radu je opisano antioksidativno djelovanje te sposobnost hvatanja slobodnih radikala i stvaranja kelata sedam hidroksamskih kiselina, derivata nesteroidnih protuupalnih lijekova ibuprofena, fenoprofena, ketoprofena, indometacina i diklofenaka. Najjače antioksidativno djelovanje i najjaču sposobnost hvatanja slobodnih radikala imala je N-metilhidroksamska kiselina diklofenaka (ANT = 88,0 % i EC50 = 60,1 g mL1). Vrijednosti za standardnu supstanciju, butilirani hidroksianisol, bile su: ANT = 86,9 % i EC50 = 18,8 g mL1. Derivat ibuprofena bio je najjači kelator među ispitivanim hidroksamskim kiselinama (EC50 = 255,6 g mL1), ali značajno slabiji od standardne supstancije, EDTA (EC50 = 29,1 g mL1). Pretpostavlja se da su različiti mehanizmi uključeni u keliranje metala i antioksidativno djelovanje, odnosno hvatanje slobodnih radikala. Antioksidativno djelovanje i sposobnost hvatanja slobodnih radikala moglo bi biti povezano s konjugacijom slobodnog para elektrona na dušiku s karbonilnom skupinom. S druge strane, hidrofilnije supstancije pokazale su se kao jači kelatori iona željeza

    Observation of B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau and Evidence for B+ -> Dbar^0 tau+ nu_tau at Belle

    Full text link
    We present measurements of B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau and B+ -> Dbar^0 tau+ nu_tau decays in a data sample of 657 x 10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We find 446^{+58}_{-56} events of the decay B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau with a significance of 8.1 standard deviations, and 146^{+42}_{-41} events of the decay B+ -> Dbar0 tau+ nu_tau with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The latter signal provides the first evidence for this decay mode. The measured branching fractions are B(B+ -> Dbar*0 tau+ nu_tau)=(2.12^{+0.28}_{-0.27} (stat) +- 0.29 (syst)) % and B(B+ -> Dbar0 tau+ nu_tau)=(0.77 +- 0.22 (stat) +- 0.12 (syst)) %.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.     Search for Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and a measurement of the branching fraction for Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma

    Full text link
    We search for the decay Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and measure the branching fraction for Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma using 121.4~fb1\textrm{fb}^{-1} of data collected at the Υ(5S)\Upsilon(\mathrm{5}S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^{+}e^{-} collider. The Bs0ϕγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\phi\gamma branching fraction is measured to be (3.6±0.5(stat.)±0.3(syst.)±0.6(fs))×105(3.6 \pm 0.5 (\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.3 (\mathrm{syst.}) \pm 0.6 (f_{s})) \times 10^{-5}, where fsf_{s} is the fraction of Bs()Bˉs()B_{s}^{(*)}\bar{B}_{s}^{(*)} in bbˉb\bar{b} events. Our result is in good agreement with the theoretical predictions as well as with a recent measurement from LHCb. We observe no statistically significant signal for the decay Bs0γγB_{s}^{0}\rightarrow\gamma\gamma and set a 90%90\% confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction at 3.1×106 3.1 \times 10^{-6}. This constitutes a significant improvement over the previous result.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure

    Measurement of e+eγχcJe^+e^- \to \gamma\chi_{cJ} via initial state radiation at Belle

    Full text link
    The process e+eγχcJe^+e^- \to \gamma\chi_{cJ} (JJ=1, 2) is studied via initial state radiation using 980 fb1^{-1} of data at and around the Υ(nS)\Upsilon(nS) (nn=1, 2, 3, 4, 5) resonances collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ee^+e^- collider. No significant signal is observed except from ψ(2S)\psi(2S) decays. Upper limits on the cross sections between s=3.80\sqrt{s}=3.80 and 5.56 GeV5.56~{\rm GeV} are determined at the 90% credibility level, which range from few pb to a few tens of pb. We also set upper limits on the decay rate of the vector charmonium [ψ(4040\psi(4040), ψ(4160)\psi(4160), and ψ(4415)\psi(4415)] and charmoniumlike [Y(4260)Y(4260), Y(4360)Y(4360), and Y(4660)Y(4660)] states to γχcJ\gamma\chi_{cJ}.Comment: Accepted by PR

    First study of \eta_c, \eta(1760) and X(1835) production via \eta'\pi^+\pi^- final states in two-photon collisions

    Full text link
    The invariant mass spectrum of the \eta' \pi^+ \pi^- final state produced in two-photon collisions is obtained using a 673 fb^{-1} data sample collected in the vicinity of the \Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e^+e^- collider. We observe a clear signal of the \eta_c and measure its mass and width to be M(\eta_c)=(2982.7 +- 1.8(stat) +- 2.2(syst) +- 0.3(model)) MeV/c^2 and \Gamma(\eta_c) = (37.8^{+5.8}_{-5.3}(stat) +- 2.8(syst) +- 1.4(model)) MeV/c^2. The third error is an uncertainty due to possible interference between the \eta_c and a non-resonant component. We also report the first evidence for \eta(1760) decay to \eta' \pi^+ \pi^-; we find two solutions for its parameters, depending on the inclusion or not of the X(1835), whose existence is of marginal significance in our data. From a fit to the mass spectrum using coherent X(1835) and \eta(1760) resonant amplitudes, we set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the product \Gamma_{\gamma\gamma} \BR (\eta' \pi^+ \pi^-) for the X(1835).Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, submitted to PR
